Perfect Honeymoon

After the Big Day: The Perfect Honeymoon

After months of wedding planning, too many relatives, and a dozen little snafus, you’re going to be ready to get away for awhile on your honeymoon and enjoy some time alone. You’re probably going to have a great time no matter where you go, but you should still take some time to think about where you might have the most fun and get the most relaxation.

First, be aware of any budget constraints you might have. Wedding etiquette generally assigns someone else to pay for most of the wedding (and if this is your case, you’re very lucky!) but wedding etiquette doesn’t dictate that anyone pay for your honeymoon. For people on a budget, all-inclusive honeymoons can be a great choice. They cost a little more up front but you won’t have to be breaking open your wallet for every meal, drink, and activity.

Next, decide what area you want to go to. It should be something that you both think will be fun and relaxing. Don’t let your future spouse off the hook by saying “Yeah, whatever you want sounds good to me.” You deserve a great honeymoon as much as they do, and you don’t want to spend your whole honeymoon secretly resenting your new spouse because you’re not having any fun. Think about options that might incorporate hobbies or interests that you share.

Once you’ve decided on an area, start looking into making the arrangements. Choose the hotel or all-inclusive location that will offer you the most. Make sure you mention that you’ll be on your honeymoon; a lot of places will offer to upgrade a package or thrown in some freebies. This can be a great way to make your honeymoon feel extra-special without having to spend too much extra money.

Finally, make sure all your documentation is in order well before the wedding. The last thing you’ll want to worry about on your wedding day is where your plane tickets are. If you’re leaving the country, make sure you have a current passport. Remember that it can take six weeks or longer to apply for a new one and receive it in the mail. Put a close friend or family member in charge of all your honeymoon stuff, including your luggage and all necessary paperwork. When you’re ready to leave the reception, just ask that person for everything you need. You shouldn’t have to worry about such tiny details on your wedding day.

Finally, just sit back and relax. There are plenty of real life decisions you’ll have to make and work you’ll have to do as soon as you get back. Your honeymoon will be a great time for you to enjoy with your new spouse without all the mundane distractions of everyday life.
